The foundation of your hearing healthcare starts with a comprehensive and accurate hearing evaluation.
Hearing evaluations are designed to assess the type, source, and severity of your hearing loss. Our Audiologist begins with obtaining a thorough understanding of your hearing difficulties. We perform a detailed discussion of your current medical history and take the time to determine how your symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life.
Video Otoscopy: Take a peek inside your own ears as we assess if your ear canal is clear and healthy, or if there is an obstruction that’s causing your hearing loss.
Speech Audiometry: We perform a variety of tests where you repeat words to see the softest level you are able to hear. This examination also allows us cross check with the tones test to ensure we have valid and reliable results.
Pure Tones: You will hear a series of beeps and different loudness levels and pitches to determine the softest level you can hear.
Bone Conduction: It is important to determine if a hearing loss is present, where the hearing loss may be occurring. The findings of this test can determine whether you need a referral or you are a candidate for hearing aids.
Speech-In-Noise Testing: Often times people will hear fine in quiet and one-on-one but have trouble in complex listening situations. For this reason, we perform speech in noise testing for each ear separately and then together to determine how the ears and brain are able to perform in the presence of background noise.
All of our findings will be discussed with you in an easy-to-understand manner, so you truly understand your own hearing loss. We pride ourselves on extensive patient education, and by the time your hearing test has concluded, you will be well-versed in your specific type of hearing loss and the best ways to treat it.
If hearing aids are the best course of treating your hearing loss, rather than selling you on the latest models on the market, we will recommend what is specific to your hearing needs, ultimately leaving the decision to pursue treatment in your hands. We aim to be your guide during this process and respect whatever course of treatment you feel is most appropriate for you.
Hearing Aid Test Drive: You should not be expected to invest in better hearing if you don't know what it looks like, feels like and how it sounds. This is why we offer same day demonstration during the consultation appointment. Being in your home, you also get the additional benefit of testing the hearing aids with the television and maybe even the dining hall in your senior community!
Extended Hearing Aid Test Drive: If you want to keep the hearing aids for 7-10 days to test them in various setting and around more individuals, we also can offer an extended trial.
At Nova Audiology, we are dedicated to help you improve your hearing, but also want you to be confident in your decision to move forward with your better hearing journey.
